Earlier this week Bill and Valerie Hole took interested staff and their spouses on a tour of the building site. Everyone who has seen the site in person is amazed at the sheer physical scale of the project.

Our submission for a development permit goes in tomorrow and everyone is busy trying to finalize last minute details. The following are a current set of drawings as of March 1.

While completely tentative and subject to too many conditions to list, we are posting our anticipated schedule for the build.
February 2009 • permit applications submitted
July 2009 • break ground
September 2009 • greenhouse construction started
August 2010 • begin working in new building

One of the systems were are strongly considering for the new building is the use of flood floors for watering. The following video show the efficiency and effectiveness of this method.

Hole’s and our architect and structural engineer met on November 3rd and 4th with representatives from Thermoflor (based out of Holland) and Prins Greenhouses (out of Abbottsford B.C.).
Over the course of our meetings, design choices were carefully weighed, costs were discussed and an ambitious schedule was presented. Flexibility, compatibility and energy savings were the days’ buzzwords. Each member of the group left with a list of tasks ranging from new quotes to reflect design changes to complex drawings. It’s full speed ahead—on paper at least.

Bill Hole and Dave Grice took a tour of the land to have a look at the progress. Underground services are in and the roads should be paved by next week.
There is a meeting scheduled for November 4 and 5 with the greenhouse supplier. A vast majority of the above ground structure of the new centre will be new, high-tech glass houses.

Programming committees are busy meeting to determine the architectural needs. The groups are currently divided into Indoor Living, Outdoor Living, The Plant Market, the iCentre, Production and Warehousing. As planes develop more groups will be added until the whole space is programmed.
